Five for Friday August 25: Celebrating Success in Advancing Medication Use Quality

We are excited to announce that registration has opened for the 2023 PQA Leadership Summit and PQA Convenes: Advancing Medication Therapy Management Quality Measurement.

This year’s summit will focus on measure modernization and PQA’s role in the national effort to advance and align measures across providers and value-based programs. This PQA Convenes event is part of a national initiative to advance medication therapy management (MTM) quality measurement and other strategies to evaluate MTM services. Learn more about these events below.

We also highlight our members' perspectives on team-based care, value-based arrangements and pharmacists' role as providers. If you have news you'd like for us to spotlight in an upcoming Five For Friday, send us an email!

Moving Towards Team-based Care

A new Surescripts survey revealed that while a majority of providers believe it’s important for the health care industry to move to team-based care, there are other challenges that stand in the way of improving the delivery of patient care. A significant majority of prescribers said it is somewhat or very important that pharmacists be able to provide more care services, including immunization administration, smoking cessation, point of care testing, wellness screenings and medication therapy management.

Expanding Pharmacists' Role as Providers
In a recent webinar moderated by OmniSYS, panelists from the American Pharmacists Association, Walgreens and Kroger Health discussed expanding pharmacists' role as providers. They addressed whether pharmacists are prepared for infectious disease and chronic disease care, pointing out that often pharmacists are doing residencies or post-grad training to get additional expertise in different areas. Patients also have become more familiar with pharmacists, deepening their relationships and trust.

Enhancing Care with Value-Based Arrangements
Pharmacy Quality Solutions has partnered with Emblem Health to support member health and close gaps in care through a first-of-its-kind pharmacy value-based arrangement in New York. The partnership incentivizes network pharmacies to capture and share blood pressure and A1C screening results with EmblemHealth. Both programs recognize pharmacies that achieve higher quality scores, improve health outcomes and serve as trusted community destinations for care.

Join Us for Leadership summit and PQA Convenes
After hearing feedback from many of our members, we have expanded the participation in the 2023 PQA Leadership Summit to include two individuals from each PQA member organization. In previous years, participation was limited to one attendee per organization. We recommend that one of your attendees be your organization's MTM expert to maximize the value of the PQA Convenes: Advancing Medication Therapy Management Quality Measurement event to your organization.
These are invitation-only events for PQA member organizations. About 200 leaders attend the summit each year. If your PQA member organization is not registered to attend, check with your member Key Contact and make plans to be with us November 2-3 at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, Va. If you don’t know if your organization is participating or don’t know who your Key Contact is, email us at [email protected].
Attendance at the Leadership Summit is an exclusive benefit of PQA membership, and there is no registration fee. We encourage members to register by October 6. The PQA Convenes event has a nominal registration fee: $149 for PQA members, $209 for non-members.
