Five for Friday July 18: Celebrating Success in Advancing Medication Use Quality

Welcome to Five For Friday!

PQA is developing its next strategic plan, Blueprint PQA 2030, which will guide the organization’s work from 2026 through 2030. The proposed goals build on and continue key elements of PQA’s current strategic plan, Blueprint PQA 2025 and will be the focus of the 2025 PQA Leadership Summit.

PQA now seeks input from its members on the goals and their objectives through Friday, August 8. Since 2021, PQA has been working to develop innovative solutions and build capacity to enable quality medication use in a digital health system that is moving towards value-based care. We now look forward to your input on our proposed plans for the next five years. Learn more below.

We also highlight our members' perspectives on accessible care and pharmacy clinical services. If you have news you'd like for us to spotlight in an upcoming Five For Fridaysend us an email

Providing Accessible Care

Supermarket pharmacies are throwing a lifeline to the record number of Americans struggling to access healthcare in the form of mobile health clinics, free immunizations, pay-over-time prescription programs and food as medicine programs. Learn how Albertsons Companies and Kroger Health are expanding access to care.

Innovating to Advance Pharmacy Services
PQA Board member Amina Abubakar, who represents CPESN USAdiscusses the innovative approaches she's taken to build successful independent pharmacies. She also discusses the current state of pharmacy and gives the future generation of pharmacists advice on how to truly succeed in an ever-dynamic profession.

Expanding Pharmacy Clinical Services
The future of independent pharmacies appears to be increasingly centered on expanded clinical services. These emerging opportunities include immunizations, medication therapy management, and point-of-care testing. By diversifying their service offerings, pharmacies can become more integral to patient care and create additional revenue streams. PQA Board member Crystal Lennartz discusses McKesson's strategy, which aims to enable pharmacies to focus on patient care.

Comments Invited on Blueprint PQA 2030

PQA has developed three proposed goals that are focused on the largest and most timely opportunities facing PQA and its multi-stakeholder member organizations, who are working across the industry to improve the quality of medication use and outcomes.

PQA seeks input from its members on the goals and their objectives. The input PQA receives will help the organization refine the goals and objectives, which will be the focus of the PQA Leadership Summit, November 13-14, in Arlington, Va. As with PQA’s 2021 summit, this year’s summit will leverage PQA members’ expertise to inform the strategies and tactics that will be key to success through 2030. Registration information for the 2025 PQA Leadership Summit will be announced in the coming weeks.

PQA members can visit the Member Resources Library to learn more about the proposed goals and online survey through Friday, August 8. If you have questions about this opportunity or PQA's strategic planning process, email us at [email protected].
