-- Loren Kirk, PharmD, CAE, IOM, PQA Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships
When independent and retail storefronts close across the country, creating a lack of pharmacy services in the community, pharmacy deserts arise. Cencora detailed insights into the prominence of pharmacy deserts, issues within its definitions, how they impact both patients and pharmacists, and how they are an inherently community-based issue.
Building a Team-Based Approach to Blood Pressure Control
Building and testing a team-based care model in primary care, the heart-2-heart blood pressure control partners study is a randomized controlled trial (RCT) designed by the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy to evaluate the effectiveness of a pharmacist-led team-based home blood pressure (BP) management program compared to enhanced usual care.
Studying Equitable Access to Medication
A recent study from the National Pharmaceutical Council found racial and ethnic disparities in medication use persisted, most notably the underutilization of medicines relative to disease burden among Black populations. These patterns varied by state, highlighting the need for local- and condition-specific approaches to advancing pharmacoequity in the US.
